Graduate Student Housing Options
We suggest looking into housing as soon as you accept your admission offer, as demand is high, especially in the Fall. There are both on-campus and off-campus housing options available to suit different budgets and preferences.
On-Campus Housing
UC San Diego offers university-affiliated housing options for graduate students near campus. Availability is limited, and there is typically a waitlist. You can add your name to the waitlist as soon as you are accepted to UCSD.
To secure housing more quickly, you can apply to become a roommate with a current resident of university-affiliated housing. Forms and additional information are available on the UCSD Housing website.
Off-Campus Housing
Graduate students also have the option to rent non-university-affiliated housing in the surrounding areas. Housing options include apartments, houses, and shared living arrangements in various neighborhoods with different price points and amenities. Popular neighborhoods include:
- UTC/La Jolla – Located directly south of campus and well-connected by the city bus routes and UCSD shuttles.
- Clairemont Mesa – A residential neighborhood with convenient access to campus.
- Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach – Beachside communities with a vibrant atmosphere but farther from campus.
- Hillcrest, North Park, University Heights – Urban neighborhoods with a lively social scene, restaurants, and shops.
Many off-campus locations are accessible by UCSD’s free shuttle service or San Diego city buses.
